Solegear Bioplastics Recognized By The City Of Vancouver As A Leading Business Innovator

Company to be honoured with Award of Excellence for making Vancouver a Healthier, Greener, More Inclusive, and More Prosperous Community

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA –  Solegear Bioplastics, a leading developer of high-performance plant-based plastics, was awarded the City of Vancouver Award of Excellence for Business Innovation in the “Green – 25 employees and Under” category.

“The City of Vancouver’s Awards of Excellence honour the contributions of exceptional people making Vancouver a healthier, greener, more inclusive, and more prosperous community,” said Mayor Gregor Robertson. The Business Innovation Award recognizes contributions to Vancouver in the areas of economic impact and business leadership.

Solegear Bioplastics was founded on a mission to play an integral role in making our communities healthier, safer and stronger by changing the way we make and dispose of products made out of plastic. Founded in 2006, the Vancouver-based company currently has a team of 11 employees.

“Solegear is proud to have been founded and to be growing in Vancouver, and we are humbled to be recognized by the City of Vancouver with this inaugural award,” said CEO and founder Toby Reid. “Vancouver has demonstrated a strong commitment to being vibrant, affordable and sustainable. We look forward to continuing to be one sole gear in the City’s innovation engine and to help make Vancouver – and the world – a healthier, safer and stronger place to be.”

The recipients of this award were nominated by the public, and chosen by the City Council based on the nominees’ influence, impact, and achievements in their category. For the full list of 2014 winners, please visit The City of Vancouver Website.
