Secretary Husted announces April Ohio Business Profiles

Featured businesses part of Ohio "Bioproducts” theme

Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted today announced that as part of an ongoing effort to recognize the impact of Ohio businesses, April’s Ohio Business Profile will highlight companies across the state that are part of the emerging bioproducts industry in Ohio.

“Companies manufacturing bio-based products in Ohio are having great success combining agricultural expertise with emerging technologies to create new and better products,” Secretary Husted said. “Ohio agribusiness is improving our environment and our economy, which means jobs and a better quality of life for everyone.”

Businesses specializing in the manufacturing of bioproducts utilize natural, renewable materials that can be used to replace petroleum-based products. Some examples of bioproducts being explored in Ohio include making plastic additives or print toner from soybeans, using plant fibers to reinforce plastic, as well as growing a new dandelion crop that could be turned into high performance rubber.

According to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Ohio ranks 2nd nationally for the number of bio-based companies and materials produced. In fact, more than 45 Ohio-based companies and more than 1,200 bioproducts manufactured and distributed in the state have been designated USDA BioPreferred – a program intended to help promote the increased purchase and use of bio-based products.

Companies profiled this month include:

  • USA Soy Solutions, LLC. / BioBased Spray Systems, LLC. – Sidney, Ohio – A new company that provides ag based lubricants and hydraulic fluids as well as dust suppressants. Patented the product BIORESTOR which is a USDA bio preferred asphalt rejuvenator sealer that is made from soybean and other agricultural oils.
  • Kutol Products Company, Inc. – Sharonville, Ohio – Formulate and manufacture a wide variety of hand soaps, hand sanitizers and specialty hand hygiene products that are made with bio-based ingredients.
  • Plastic Suppliers, Inc. – Columbus, Ohio – Over 60 years old and one of the world’s leading manufacturers of biaxially oriented plastic films and sheets.
  • Spartan Chemical Company, Inc. – Maumee, Ohio – Led the national green cleaning movement with a line of environmentally preferable products called Green Solutions.

Launched in June 2011, Ohio Business Profile has helped raise awareness about companies registered and doing business in Ohio that are creating interesting products, offering outstanding service, contributing to their local communities and employing Ohioans in the process. Each month, a handful of diverse businesses linked together by a common theme are featured on the Secretary of State’s website at OhioBusinessProfile.com, where Ohioans are encouraged to go to submit companies they feel are deserving of recognition in future months.

Secretary Husted’s office also releases a monthly report of new business filings in Ohio. Recent data has shown that the number of newly-registered businesses in Ohio is up for the year as compared to the same timeframe last year.
