nova’s new department: Economy & Policy

The multidisciplinary team with diverse backgrounds is looking forward to exciting projects

As of 2016, nova-Institute restructured its team and now has a dedicated group working on topics related to “Economy and Policy”. This entails techno-economic evaluations, market research, policy analysis and recommendation, data collection and evaluation as well as strategic communication for industry, policy makers and NGOs in the fields of bio-based and CO2-based economy.

The new group is made up of Agricultural Economist Dr. Stephan Piotrowski, Forestry Scientist Dr. Asta Partanen (formerly Eder), Social and Political Scientist Luis Sarmento and is headed by Political Scientist Lara Dammer. The multidisciplinary team with diverse backgrounds is looking forward to exciting projects.

Some of the recent publications and projects carried out by one or several members of the new department include:

  • Calculation of macroeconomic effects of the bioeconomy for the Bio-based Industries Joint Undertaking (BBI JU)
  • Preparation of data sets for the economic monitoring of the EU’s Bioeconomy Observatory for the Joint Research Centre (JRC)
  • Mapping study on the policy framework of the cascading use of wood for WWF and Mondi
  • Market study on wood-plastic composites (WPC) and natural fibre composites (NFC) in Europe
