New French Plant to Produce Epichlorohydrin from Biodiesel By-Product Glycerine

Chemical Business NewsBase (Composite) via NewsEdge Corporation: Solvay is constructing a new epichlorohydrin facility on its industrial site in Tavaux, France, with operations due in 1H 2007.

The company’s Epicerol process is based on converting glycerine, a biodiesel industry by-product. The new facility, which will have an initial capacity of 10,000 tonnes/y, will utilize glycerine obtained from rapeseed oil as its feedstock.

Major applications of epichlorohydrin include manufacture of epoxy resins, paper reinforcement and water purification.
