Natural Clothing Pioneer Of The Earth (“OTE”) Expands Private-Label Line To Meet Demands of Environmentally Conscious Companies

Of The Earth sets ambitious goals of selling millions of natural-fiber T-shirts annually

BEND, Oregon — Twelve years after introducing its first organic cotton blank T, Of The Earth has expanded its private-label line with the first Ts made of hemp/organic cotton and an innovative soy/organic cotton blend. The two new offerings will help OTE meet demand as U.S. companies continue to switch from conventional to natural fabrics. OTE sells the natural-fiber shirts as blanks or as finished garments with custom labels and silk screening. Now with the industry’s largest selection of natural-fiber Ts, OTE believes its private-label program will soon surpass millions of pieces annually.

While OTE believes the trend toward natural fabrics is a good thing, the company says the recent surge in demand has caught suppliers off-guard. OTE says the trend is fueled by companies’ desires to make an environmental statement, while providing customers with garments that are higher in quality than conventional counterparts.

“If you didn’t plan your company’s switch to organic fabric a few years ago, then chances are good you’re looking at a sourcing void,” explains OTE Vice President of Sales and Marketing Gary Bracelin. “Because OTE deals with every aspect of natural fabric—from farm to factory—we’re in an enviable position to meet current demands, and the new additions to our private-label line reflect this.”

OTE has recently supplied natural-fiber blanks and finished garments to environmentally minded companies and organizations the likes of Marmot, Birkenstock, Alaskan Brewing, REI, Early Winters, Green Mountain Energy and The Grateful Dead.

Founded in 1992, OTE designs and markets quality clothing that allows people to live simply while dressing in style and comfort. The Bend, Oregon company is a leading developer of environmentally sustainable fabrics, having introduced new blends of organic cotton, hemp, silk, wool, ramie, linen, tencel, soy, bamboo, yak and cashmere. The company is establishing a new industry standard by seeking organic certification of all fibers used in its entire product line by 2005. OTE currently has third-party USDA and IFOAM organic certification on soy, linen and cotton.

OTE garments and accessories are available worldwide under the OTE brand and a growing number of private labels. OTE donates ten percent of its net profits to the Of The Earth Foundation in support of grass-roots environmental and humanitarian causes worldwide.
