Iron plant to open in Jamestown

Carbontec to power ND coal production with sugarbeet waste

Carbontec Energy Corp. is partnering with a large iron company to build and operate a 100,000-metric-ton iron plant in Jamestown.

The plant, which will be run by Carbontec subsidiary E-Nugget North Dakota LLC, will make iron nuggets using sugar beet residue or wood chips as a reductant in place of coal, said Carbontec Energy Corp. Chairman John Simmons.
