Global Bioenergies entrusts Linde with the design of its German pilot plant

Global Bioenergies built its second isobutene industrial pilot plant at the Leuna refinery site

Evry (France) and Munich (Germany) – March 5th, 2014 Global Bioenergies announces that the design of its second industrial pilot will be carried out by the Engineering Division of The Linde Group, a world-leading gases and engineering company.

Global Bioenergies, a NYSE Alternext Paris listed company (ALGBE), is a pioneer in the development of processes to convert renewable resources into light olefins, the key building blocks of the petrochemical industry. Its most advanced program is focused on the production of isobutene, a molecule with a multi-billion US Dollar market that cannot be accessed through the cheap C2 fraction of shale gas and natural gas. The company recently announced the choice of the Leuna refinery site for its second industrial pilot, for which the German ministry of research committed a €5.7m grant. Global Bioenergies recently strengthened its deployment in Germany by setting-up a subsidiary in Leipzig and signing a partnership on renewable gasoline with Audi.

Today, Global Bioenergies is glad to announce that Linde will carry out the design of this industrial pilot. Linde is a world leader in the field of industrial gases with more than 100 years of experience in engineering facilities using or producing industrial gases.

Markus Wolperdinger, Vice President Biotechnology Plants at Linde’s Engineering Division, declares: “We regard isobutene as a very attractive gaseous molecule for a wide range of applications in chemical and industrial products. We are delighted to be chosen as Engineering Company for Global Bioenergies’ second pilot plant. For the chemical site of Leuna, this project means a further strengthening of its outstanding position as a center for the commercialization of innovative biotechnological processes”

Richard Bockrath, Vice President Chemical Engineering at Global Bioenergies, adds: “Several large and recognized industrialists now constitute our sphere of collaborators: Cristal Union, Synthos, Audi, Arkema, and now Linde, a great leader in industrial gases. I expect that accessing Linde’s immense technology expertise will be a key factor of success in bringing our process to the market.”

About GLOBAL BIOENERGIES

Global Bioenergies is one of the few companies worldwide, and the only one in Europe, that is developing a process to convert renewable resources into hydrocarbons through fermentation. The Company initially focused its efforts on the production of isobutene, one of the most important petrochemical building blocks that can be converted into fuels, plastics, organic glass and elastomers. Global Bioenergies continues to improve the yield of its process and is actively entering the industrial pilot testing phase. The company recently replicated this success to propylene and butadiene and is also looking to continue with other members of the gaseous olefins family, key molecules at the heart of petrochemical industry. Global Bioenergies is listed on NYSE Alternext Paris (FR0011052257 – ALGBE).
