Finnish toymaker switches to eco-sustainable plastic

Plasto launched their own toy range in spring 2017, comprised of toys made from Braskem’s biobased I'm Green PE

Finland-based toy company Plasto, with over 60 years of experience in manufacturing high quality plastic toys, places a very high value on safety and durability. The company also has a strong focus on environmental values and has been recycling its plastic production waste already for several decades.

Bildschirmfoto 2017-09-14 um 12.58.13In spring 2017, Plasto launched their own I’m Green toy range, comprised of toys made from Braskem’s biobased polyethylene derived from sugar cane. All the toys in this range are over 90% biobased. Braskem’s I’m Green bio PE is distributed in Finland by FKuR, a group of companies focusing on the development, production and marketing of high-quality special compounds and the distribution of plastic specialties, including bioplastics compounds for flexible packaging solutions and engineering applications.

By switching to biobased PE, Plasto will significantly reduce the carbon footprint of its toys as well as the use of fossil resources. For every kg of I’m green Polyethylene used in Plastos’ toys more than 5 kg of CO2 is saved. The toys are food contact safe and dishwasher safe. At the end of their life cycle they can be recycled and the raw material can be reused, in accordance with Plasto’s philosophy.

According to Plasto, the new I’m Green range of toys has been extremely well received. The company will be expanding the range with new items in time for Christmas.

” We have expanded our I’m Green range with crane and fire truck already for this Christmas. We are proud to offer a sustainable choice,” says Kennet Berndtsson, Managing Director at Plasto.

All Plasto toys are manufactured in Finland. The toy factory was founded in 1954 and is located in the Åland islands.
