EuropaBio Launches the Most Innovative European Biotech SME Award 2012

Calling All SMEs!

Today EuropaBio invites nominees for Europe’s Most Innovative Biotech SME of the year by launching the call for applications to the 2012 award. The award offers the opportunity to build the public profiles of companies leading the way in developing Europe’s strong scientific potential in the application of biotechnology. With a prize fund of € 10,000 and two years free membership of EuropaBio (worth over €5,000), the competition is again expected to attract an outstanding array of applications from across EU member states and representing all sectors of the Biotech industry.

The award will be presented at a public event in the European Parliament in Brussels. This event will be a showcase for innovative Biotechnology in Europe. It will be hosted by Dr Philippe de Backer, MEP and key note addresses will be given by G. Steven Burrill, Founder and CEO of Burrill & Company as well as Vice-President Commissioner Tajani. Expected attendees include industry representatives, EU media, venture capitalists, CEOs and high ranking EU policy makers.

Criteria for the Award
The main criteria for applying are that the company applying must qualify as an SME under the standard EU SME definition and it should be based in one of the European member states. The innovative idea or products must solve and tackle some of society’s biggest environmental, technical or social challenges for the future. Applicants must also explain their business strategy for the upcoming 24 months, including how to overcome challenges in raising capital.
