Braskem Green Plastic comes to organic coffee packaging

Collaboration in Minas Gerais to supply the Green Plastic entitled I'm greenTM for the production of organic coffee packaging

Braskem and União Plásticos, a company that manufactures and markets flexible plastic packaging, have partnered with Cooperativa de Agricultores Familiares de Poço Fundo e Região (COOPFAM) in Minas Gerais to supply the Green Plastic entitled I’m greenTM for the production of organic coffee packaging.

With an annual distribution of four tons of organic coffee, COOPFAM is a reference in organic, solidary and agroecological agriculture, benefiting more than 400 families of small coffee growers of municipalities in the south of Minas Gerais. The use of polyethylene of a renewable origin is another aspect for the sustainability of the cooperative. This is the first packaging of organic coffees that bets on the use of Green Polyethylene in the Brazilian market.

Green Plastic is a combination of innovation, technology and sustainability. This polymer captures 3.09 tons of CO2 for each ton of resin of renewable origin produced, according to the Life Cycle Assessment (ACV) carried out by ACV Brasil consultancy and with a technical review of a panel composed by the Institute for Energy and Environmental Research GmbH (IFEU) and Michigan State.
