BioAmber Commits to Action on Climate Change

BioAmber Joins 140 Companies in the American Business Act on Climate Pledge

Today, BioAmber Inc. (BIOA: NYSE), announces that it has joined the American Business Act on Climate Pledge, joining more than 140 companies from across the American economy that are standing with the Obama Administration to demonstrate an ongoing commitment to climate action and to voice support for a strong outcome to the COP21 Paris climate negotiations.

BioAmber uses leading edge biotechnology to deliver a significant reduction in greenhouse gases (GHGs) and energy consumption.

We have built and are operating the world’s largest succinic acid plant – BioAmber Sarnia located in Sarnia, Ontario. Our innovative process converts sugar into a building block chemical used to make plastics, resins, paints, textiles, synthetic leather, and personal care products.

By using renewable feedstock instead of petroleum, we have eliminated greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs) and significantly cut energy consumption, while producing value added chemicals that are exported around the world. We have sent letters to the Canadian Prime Minister and the Premier of Ontario describing BioAmber Sarnia’s contribution to climate change.

We believe that the chemical industry is on the cusp of a transformation and petroleum derived chemicals will be increasingly substituted by more sustainable chemicals – succinic acid is leading this trend.

We wish all of the negotiators success.
