Bio-industry says it can boost agricultural economy

Bio-based movement can economically stimulate Michigan agriculture

With state as well as federal support, bio-based industries could grow Michigan’s agriculture industry and reduce dependence on oil, according to an industry group.

“We believe that the bio-based movement can economically stimulate Michigan agriculture,” said Robert Robinson, president of the Michigan Biopreferred Products Association.

Robinson said bio-based products can be made from renewable resources grown in the state such as corn, soybeans, straw and other plants. The products include fuels, chemicals, materials and direct energy produced by biogas, as well as final products ranging from bed linens and towels to greases and cleaners.
