PTTGC, NatureWorks, Dairy Home to use Ingeo bioplastics-based cup for yoghurt packaging

PTT Global Chemical, Dairy Home, and NatureWorks jointly announced the use of Ingeo naturally advanced packaging for Dairy Home’s organic yoghurt in Thailand as “the perfect match between natural product and its packaging”. This eco-friendly Ingeo bioplastics yoghurt cup launched is the first of its kind in Thailand and Asia.

Athavudhi Hirunburana, Chief of Downstream Operation, PTT Global Chemical Public Company Limited described that PTTGC has been gearing up direction and strategy to be a leading chemical company by consideration of 3 aspects; economic, social responsibility, and environment. Innovation development to enhance value of PTTGC products shall always include environment preservation in our concern. This launch of bioplastics yoghurt cup is another step that PTTGC can deliver innovative products to consumer together with Dairy Home which having the same vision and goal and also doing sustainable business in terms of creating collaboration to bring value-added environmental-friendly product to consumers.

For bioplastics innovation, PTTGC obtains technology proficiency by acquiring shares in bioplastics technology owners in USA which have been successful in global commercialization, and have plan to expand production in Asia, especially in Thailand where holds efficiency in terms of various raw materials with abundant agricultural products e.g. sugar cane, which is nowadays over supply. Sugar from these local agricultural products can be feedstock of bioplastics factory as value addition as well as more revenue generation to Thai farmers, and then creating eco-friendly products to serve consumers having environmental-friendly concern.

Pruitti Kerdchoochuen, Managing Director of Dairy Home, explained that Dairy Home, established for 15 years, is among the first organic dairy products in Thailand. All products have a certified Carbon Footprint reduction since Dairy Home has long been focused on environmental-friendly performance packaging. Using Ingeo bioplastics yoghurt cup helps reduction of CO2 release and relieve of global warming. “We are very confident of our collaboration with PTTGC and NatureWorks” said Kerdchoochuen. Diary Home’s organic yoghurt in the new Ingeo based package design will be sold in supermarkets and retailed stores i.e. Jiffy, Max Value, Tops Supermarket, Gourmet Market, Lemon Farm, Villa Market, Foodland, Isetan, Big C and Lotus starting from the end of August. Dairy Home’s organic yoghurt has total sales revenue of approximately 2.5 million cups per year.

Viboon Pungprasert, General Manager of NatureWorks Asia Pacific Ltd., explained that Ingeo is a naturally advanced material made from plants. It offers the performance of conventional plastics and fibers with lower greenhouse gas emissions and reduced non-renewable energy consumption. “The CO2 savings we achieved for the partnership with Dairy Home organic yoghurt is equivalent to 87 tree seedlings being grown for 10 years” he said. Further to the success we have with Danone and Stonyfield yoghurt in Germany and US, the adoption by Dairy Home proved that consumers in everywhere desire to have a real choice that not only preserves the environment, meets preference of their families, and most importantly, without compromising on the performance consumers have come to expect”.
