The Cleantech 100 list

Renewable chemicals, biobased feedstock, intermediates technologies surge

This week, the Cleantech Group kicked off awards season with their annual Cleantech 100 alphabetical listing of great, private cleantech companies. This year, 14 biobased companies made the grade – including Avantium, BioAmber, Genomatica, Enerkem, Joule, LanzaTech, LS9, OPX Bio, ZeaChem, EdeniQ, Kaiima, Marrone Bio Innovations, NexSteppe, and Renmatix.

The trends are clear this year. The number of biobased companies went from nine in 2011 to 14 in 2012 – almost entirely due to the upsream companies in feedstocks and intermediates. In 2011 – zero honorees. In 2012 – four: Kaiima, Marrone Bio Innovations, NexSteppe, and Renmatix.
