Lesaffre aquire Butalco

Technological achievements will be commercialized on a global scale

Shortly after launching the new business unit Leaf Technologies (LESAFFRE ADVANCED FERMENTATION TECHNOLOGIES) dedicated to the development and sales of value added fermentation solutions to the bioethanol and bio based chemicals industries, Lesaffre are proud to announce their acquisition of the start-up Butalco.

Founded in 2007, Professor Eckhard Boles and Gunter Festel as spin off of the Goethe University of Frankfurt. Butalco is a research company focused on yeast technology and the development of yeast strains for second generation of biofuels and bio based chemicals.

“The acquisition of Butalco and its IP portfolio is a strong asset to further optimize our commercial offer for second generation fuel ethanol and will be a component of our value-added solutions for renewable chemicals”, says Didier Masy, General Manager of Leaf Technologies.
