interpack 2014 – Bioplastics, the showstopper in Hall 9, enjoy still growing interest in bioplastic packaging solutions

“Layering” is a continuing trend in packaging

Berlin, 15 May 2014. “The bioplastics in packaging stage programme at European Bioplastics’ booth was well received. Our conclusion of this year’s interpack – a major event for our industry. A statement widely heard ‘we are already working with bioplastics’. This clearly demonstrates – bioplastics play an important role for present and future packaging solutions”, says Hasso von Pogrell, Managing Director of European Bioplastics.

From all kinds of multi-layer film solutions in flexible packaging featuring biobased PE films to enhance carbon footprints or compostable e.g. cellulose based films to offer additional end- of-life options, “layering” is a continuing trend in packaging. A product established already in the rigid packaging market – the coffee capsule made of compostable bioplastic – was showcased in several versions by different companies. It represents a great example of the suitability of bioplastic for injection moulding processing.

On the busiest days of the interpack European Bioplastics offered a stage programme with 4-6 presentations daily covering topics such as “end-of-life”, “environmental claims for bioplastics” and, “product innovations”. The interested crowd jammed the corridor next to the booth of European Bioplastics.

Following the demand for further information updates on bioplastic solutions, European Bioplastics will be exhibiting at “Green Week” in Brussels on 3-5 June. Hasso von Pogrell adds: “Plastic manufacturers, converters, and users should also not miss out on our 9th European Bioplastics Conference – the leading bioplastics event in Europe covering the entire value chain.” The annual European Bioplastics Conference attracts about 400 visitors from all around the world. In 2014, it will take place on 2/3 December in Brussels.
