COEXPAN, NatureWorks and AMUT Group showcase PLA sheets for barrier packaging applications

Companies will be running together live thermoforming demos of COEXPAN PLA sheets during both Chinaplas and K-show international exhibitions

COEXPAN, Grupo Lantero’s division specializing in the manufacture of rigid sheets and thermoformed products, will be exhibiting at Chinaplas 2019, the international trade fair for the plastics industry which takes place 21-24 May in Guangzhou from 21st to 24th May. The company is showcasing its new range of rigid plastic foils made of Ingeo polylactic acid (PLA), a biobased material approved for a range of food contact applications.

wImage.phpCOEXPAN has entered into a partnership agreement with NatureWorks LLC, the supplier and founder of Ingeo PLA bioplastic, and with the AMUT Group, the leading Italian manufacturer of extrusion and thermoforming lines. Together they will be running live thermoforming demos of COEXPAN PLA sheets during both Chinaplas and K-show international exhibitions.

The company’s innovative range of PLA rigid sheets for thermoforming, marketed under the CoexBio® brand name, has demonstrated its outstanding performance in processing and packaging applications. The comprehensive family of medium and high-barrier solutions in PLA is primarily intended for dairy desserts, coffee or tea capsules, and fresh food trays among others.

The new PLA sheets have exceptional barrier properties that reduce oxygen, grease and water vapour transmissions, preserving the flavour and aroma of foods for longer. These characteristics make PLA rigid sheets highly suitable for packing applications that require extra barrier protection, such as coffee and tea capsules or fresh food trays.

PLA sheets are also outstanding for their high degree of transparency and glossy, with high tear strength and excellent strength and formability properties compared to other thermoplastic materials.

In addition to PLA, COEXPAN has extensive expertise in developing rigid foils in different thermoplastic materials, such as PET, PP and PS, both for Form-Fill-Seal (FFS) and thermoforming machines, with medium and high-barrier properties, providing the best packaging solutions that ensure product efficiency and food preservation properties.
