BYK Additives & Instruments presents a renewable and biodegradable additive at the APCS 2012

CERAFLOUR® 1000 - innovative and sustainable additive solution with the aid of bacteria

At the Asia Pacific Coatings Show from September 19 to 20 in Jakarta, BYK Additives & Instruments will be presenting at Booth B1 innovative additive solutions for the coatings and printing inks industry.

The areas of focus at this year’s show cover the themes:

  • Biotechnology in the coating industry
  • Carbon nanotubes for functional applications
  • Nanotechnology for surfaces.

In recent years, the desire for more environmentally compatible and sustainably produced additives has grown on an internationally significant scale. BYK is rising to these challenges with its Greenability concept and presenting, with CERAFLOUR® 1000, an additive with wax-like properties that is suitable for all systems, be they aqueous, radiation-curing, solvent-free or solvent-borne. CERAFLOUR® 1000 provides efficient matting and also involves a soft-touch effect. In addition, systems in which CERAFLOUR® 1000 is used exhibit a high degree of transparency and improved scratch resistance.

The special feature here is that, because the additive is based on renewable raw materials, it represents an extremely interesting alternative to natural and synthetic waxes. The latter, for instance, are based on finite, petrochemical resources. Thanks to biotechnology, the BYK additive is produced instead with the aid of bacteria.

Parallel to the APCS, Petra Lenz, Head of Technical Service Wood Coatings at BYK, will deliver a lecture on the topic of biopolymers on September 20 at 10.50 a.m.
