Butanediol for bioplastics

Novamont Novara is researching production of Butanediol from renewable resources

With the acquisition in early January 2012 of the BioItalia plant in Adria through an agreement with the U.S. company Genomatica, Novamont of Novara (Italy) begins experimenting with the production of butanediol from renewable resources.

The compound will be used to meet the increasing demand for bioplastics, a segment where Novamont is a leader. The Adria plant will have a production capacity of approximately 20,000 tons/year and should begin producing butanediol in mid-2013.
