Biome Bioplastics moves to patent protect new technology

New range of bioplastics stable at high temperatures

Biome Technologies’ wholly-owned subsidiary Biome Bioplastics has filed a patent application for its innovative new range of bioplastics that are stable at high temperatures. BiomeHT 90, the first of this new range of temperature stable bioplastics, was launched in 2010 and has been followed by six other products in the BiomeHT range.

All products in the range are made from predominantly renewable resources and are fully biodegradable, providing for lower lifecycle costs and excellent end-of-life credentials.

Biome Technologies says this breakthrough technology is opening the bio-plastics market to a multitude of new products and applications such as electronics and hot food/drink contact materials that have not been able to benefit from the environmental and brand properties of bioplastics in the past.

It says the patent application comes after extensive trials and validation procedures of the BiomeHT range and is an important next step in protecting the intellectual property being developed by Biome Bioplastics.

Biome Bioplastics MD Paul Law said: “This is the first new technology, emanating from our UK based R&D team, that we have moved to protect through patents. Market reaction to the growing BiomeHT range has been encouraging.

“With vigorous growth in the bioplastics market it is appropriate that we protect this important technology.”
