A joint effort between Fermani Cannucce Snc and Api spa has produced the bio-drinking-straw for beverages. Produced in different sizes from a patented material, the straw is 100% biodegradable.
The new material, Apinat, offers all the mechanical and hygienic characteristics of a normal polypropylene drinking straw, but has the added advantage of breaking down under controlled composting conditions. Furthermore, it offers the same performance as a thermoplastic elastomer and will not degrade when exposed to humidity or water. The biodegradability of the straw has been tested by Api spa, which has been certified by an accredited agency in accordance with the EN 13432:2000 standard.
