Alcan Packaging Food Americas, Chicago, is now offering sustainable, high-barrier packaging solutions with Ceramis-brand polyactic acid biodegradable barrier films. It offers protection against oxygen, water vapor and other gases, while maintaining optical clarity and high gloss, according to a news release.
Made from cornstarch, the Ceramis structures are biodegradable and compostable in order to meet consumer demands for environmentally friendly packaging, according to a company news release.
Featuring a silicon oxide nanocoating, the high barrier offers protection against oxygen, water vapor and other gases, while maintaining optical clarity and high gloss, according to the release.
Additionally, Ceramis is machinable, allowing processors to use established converting equipment, thus helping maintain peak productivity, according to the release.
