4th Conference on Carbon Dioxide as Feedstock for Fuels, Chemistry and Polymers

Europe’s largest event on Carbon Capture and Utilization (CCU) in 2015: CO2-based Fuels – Kerosene, Diesel and Gasoline: Very impressive and dynamically evolving future-oriented CO2 Utilization

Dear experts on alternative fuels,

The main focus of this year’s conference on Carbon Capture and Utilization is on technological breakthroughs for an efficient and low-cost utilization of CO2 as fuel. The comprehensive programme will encompass an unprecedented diversity of contributions on CO2-based fuels. The current dynamic of research and the great potential of CO2 utilization are remarkable and can no longer be ignored. The presentations of our international speakers will reflect this development:

On the first day of the conference, representatives of the European Commission and the Federal Environment Agency will outline the activities on research and integration of CO2-based fuels in the existing policy framework of the Renewable Energy Directive (RED) and in Germany.
On the second day of the conference, Prof. Dr. Nathan Lewis from the Joint Center for Artificial Photosynthesis (US) will open the session with a presentation on sunlight-driven hydrogen formation by membrane-supported photoelectrochemical water splitting. Mr. K-C Tran, CEO of Carbon Recycling International (IS), will give a comprehensive overview of their activities in power-to-methanol technology. Looking back on an eventful and very successful year for the sunfire GmbH (DE), Christian von Olshausen will give an update of recent and future activities in power-to-liquids.
For the first time in Europe, Prof. Dr. Tobias Bischof-Niemz from the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (ZAF) will present the potential for power-to-X in South African process industries. Within the EU-founded SOLAR-JET project, the production of solar jet fuel was successfully demonstrated and carried out. Dr. Andreas Sizmann (Bauhaus Luftfahrt e.V., DE) will report about this breakthrough, which could revolutionise the future of aviation. Julie Horn, Business Development Manager of NewCO2Fuels, a very active company from Israel, will share insights from their power-to-liquids technology. Finally, Prof. Markus Friedl (Hochschule für Technik Rapperswil, CH) will discuss the potential of carbon capturing for sustainable energy supply and Stefanie Schlager (Johannes Kepler University of Linz, AUT) will be presenting results on bioelectrocatalytic CO2 reduction by using enzymes and microorganisms.
